Andrew Lloyd Webber, Baron Lloyd-Webber (born 22 March 1948is an English composer and impresario of musical theatre. He was born in Kensington, London. Andrew is the elder son of William Lloyd Webber (1914–1982), a composer and organist. His mother is Jean Hermione Johnstone (1921–1993), a violinist and pianist. His younger brother, Julian Lloyd Webber, is a world-renowned solo cellist.
He was knighted in 1992. In 1993 he became a member of the British Academy of Music and the Royal Society of Composers.
In Musical Theater
The British playwright Alan Ayckbourn developed the first play together with Lloyd Webber, which had little success. In 1976 Rice and Lloyds Webber teamed up to create “Evita” as a concept album. In 1983 they returned to the musical with Rice for the Broadway production of “The Phantom of the Opera” at the Royal Opera House.
When Sunset Boulevard joined the School of Rock, Cats and the Phantom of the Opera on Broadway earlier this year. Andrew Lloyd Webber was the one to break the 1953 record for four simultaneous Broadway shows set by Rodgers and Hammerstein.
